DPS: The Mexican Drug Cartels Are Coming After Texas High Schoolers

They're coming for your high schoolers.
The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a warning today to state residents that didn't sound at all alarming; it just mentioned that "the Mexican Cartels are Recruiting Texas High School Students."

Yes, those innocent kids you blithely send off to high school each day might be targeted by cartel members lingering around the library!

"Mexican Cartels have corrupted nearly an entire generation of youth living in Northern Mexico and they seek to corrupt our youth as well to further their smuggling operations," said DPS director Steven McCraw. "The Mexican Cartels value Texas teenagers for their ability to serve as expendable labor in many different roles and they have unlimited resources to recruit our children."

The problem is especially acute, of course, on the border, DPS says.

"In one Texas border county, more than 25 juveniles have been arrested for drug trafficking within the past year," the agency said. "Last month, two Texas teenagers were lured to Mexico where they were kidnapped, beaten, ransomed and released in a remote area along the Rio Grande River. Last week, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) apprehended a 12-year-old boy in a border county driving a stolen pickup truck containing more than 800 pounds of marijuana."

That is, of course, horrible, but the whole announcement had more than a note of "the Commies are coming for your kids!" to it.

DPS did have some advice: "Parents should talk to their children and explain how the Cartels seek to exploit Texas teenagers and the risks in dealing with these ruthless organizations, especially those parents who live along the Texas/Mexico border."

Who wants to become El Chapo's best friend? Vicente Carrillo Fuentes's drinking buddy? The chess partners of the Beltran Leyva brothers?

This is what you vote for every time you vote to continue prohibition or vote against drug law reform.  The drug cartels are only going to continue getting larger, more sophisticated and better armed the longer the War on Drugs continues.  Isn't it time to end the insanity?

Really now??

Sounds more to me like a ploy by Perry's buds up at DPS trying to give credence to his ridiculous statement that we could/should maybe essentially invade Mexico with our own troops to "help" them with their drug crisis.

If the governor's office is as cozy with the DPS heads in Texas as they are in Louisiana (oh, the stories I could tell you!), then that is entirely plausible.

I'd say its about time for the mighty World Police Dept (The US) to go on down to Mexico and "clean house". real-privacy.tk

Don't parents teach their kids not to trust strangers anymore? Don't parents know where their kids are? These are profoundly more important issues than the broken record "drug cartels" rallying cry. A more realistic drug policy would solve this issue, but hey, there's too many [apparently influential] people making  $$$ from prohibition for anything to change soon. In meantime, at least know where your kids are when they toke up.

It sounds like you're making light of a very serious subject... There have been Houston teenagers killed in Mexico already. I think you need to pay more attention if you think the DPS is just trying to scare people.

Not sure what is funny here Connelly, though you did admit to kids being kidnapped and beaten for ransom is horrible, until you ended that with the Commie reference.  Are you secretly commenting on here under the moniker "Ribalding", because that commenter seems to have no problem with children being exploited either.

It will never happen.  The governemt makes to much money from drugs.

You need to do some research. These kids weren't offered candy from a guy in a van.

It's not a serious subject - it's DPS coming to the aid of Perrty, probably at his request.  I'd like to see some hard facts and evidence before I take their word that this is happening.  Show me the proof they have that led them to this conclusion, and maybe then I'll consider it a "serious subject". Two examples of kidnappings in Texas/brought to Mexico (were they even drug-related?) against teens is not proof enough for them to make the assertion that Mexican cartels "love and love to use teens".

I speak only from my experiences concerning the deep ties and in-your-face corruption that goes on between the governor's office here in Louisiana (Jindal's joke of an administration) and all of the heads of the Louisiana DPS (the heads of the agencies under the DPS umbrella that is, such as State Police, SFM, OMV, Data/Management & Finance, etc.)

I think the commie reference totally appropriate; just a shame the DPS has to use these tactics to get parents' attention. Reason and common sense has nothing to do with it, apparently.

It will never happen because we have no right to go trampling on another country's soil, attempting to give them "help" they don't want and haven't asked for.

Aren't we already occupying enough countries that don't want us there?

You should do a little research before you post about things you aren't familiar with. It makes you look bad especially as a blogger. While politics are in a sorry state, I don't think Texas DPS is going to spread false information about safety that can be proven or not by a quick google search.

Your ridiculous assertion this has anything whatsoever to do with Rick Perry is laughable. Speaking of proof, let's see some from you first.

In your world, I guess that politicians and DPS agents are behind all of if. Same with media - it's all a scam, right?

I have researched it and I'm afraid my conclusion as not changed.
