Benito Apolinar: Like His Sad Facebook Updates, Or Else
It's been a sad few weeks for Benito Apolinar. First, he and his wife Dolores separated after 15 years of marriage, and she took the kids from their home in Pecos, Texas, and moved them across the state line to Carlsbad, New Mexico. Benito, 36, had moved in with her a couple weeks ago in an effort to try to patch things up.
Facebook: It's complicated
Then came the anniversary of the death of Benito's mother. He posted notice of that grim occasion on his Facebook wall, and many of his friends paid their respects.
Not among those liking Benito's remembrance: Dolores Apolinar.
And how Benito Apolinar did not like her not liking that. According to the Carlsbad Argus, police say he showed up at the house drunk on Monday morning, demanding to know why she had not liked his post.
Benito Apolinar reportedly told his wife that "he had so many comments on his status" and was apparently unhappy that she did not respond to the post.
"That's amazing everyone 'likes' my status but you, you're my wife. You should be the first one to 'like' my status," he allegedly told his wife.
At first, Dolores would not let him in, because she is under house arrest and feared the trouble that was looming. Eventually, however, Benito gained entry and things got physical.
When the dust had settled, Benito told police that Dolores hit herself in the face and then clocked him with a cellphone. She said he pulled her hair and punched her in the cheek. Despite the fact that both showed visible (very minor) injuries, Benito was the only one arrested.
He has been charged with battery on a household member and has pleaded not guilty.
