Astros to AL with Jim Crane As Owner, Peter Gammons Says

Categories: Baseball

Hello, AL West.
Peter Gammons probably has the best sources in Major League Baseball, and he's got news: The Astros sale to Jim Crane will be approved in mid-November, and the team will switch to the American League.

Gammons tweets the sale "is expected to go through," so there's some wriggle room there, but it sounds like Astro fans should get themselves used to the bloated DH-laden games of the American League and the thrills of playing in the AL West.

Maybe the Cards and Cubs will come to town once in a while, just for old times' sake.

A lot of people seem to think the AL-NL divide is not what it used to be, but to us there's still a definite difference, and we are firmly on the NL side of that equation. As are most Astro fans, we'd bet.

At any rate, get to the box office quick before all those A's and Mariners tickets disappear!!!

Word was MLB was going to have to pay Crane et al for the money they'd lose by moving out west and the Mariners and A's wanted no part of it. Wonder if he got the big market teams to chip in. We know the Rangers wouldn't, money going to them from the Astros TV contract was a big part of the deal even if it was indirect.

Odd number of teams in each league? YOU FAIL.

Do none of those baseball nimrods own an atlas? How hard is it to move Kansas City to the AL West and then replace them with the Brewers? A simple solution and minimal disruption.

The only good thing about this is that fat ass in left field and occasionally first base will finally have a role suited to his type of game play.

The Astros suck bad enough to put themselves in this position. If they were in the playoffs right now, or even half ass respectable it wouldn't even be in the conversation.

shut up Peter Gammons. Come back with better news.

Damn, this is up there with the day I found out Santa Claus wasn't real.  Can't wait to watch two innings of road games within the division before I fall asleep.  Thanks Bud Selig, may you rot in hell.

Ok say the Rockies go to the AL west instead. That is 5 teams.....then the Astros move to the NL West. San Fran,Arizona, Would beats us all day long. AL west all you have is for right now are the Rangers. Oakland, Seattle are no better than us. Last year of Carlos Lee's contract as a DH and if he bounces back he will rise his trade deadline stock. The young guys will DH on days they don't play the field 3 at-bats per game. Young pitcher don't have to worry about bunting or running Look at (C.C.,Verlander,Price) Im sadden but still optimistic. I say 2 years to 4 AL playoff run. NL we are 7 to 9 years away.

Just great. Now we're going to a "modern" baseball league that has bastardized the game with its' stupid DH. takes away one of the most interesting aspects of the sport. Money blows.

IT's no secret that Selig moved the Brewers to the NAtional league because he got tired of getting arse kicked day in and day out.

See what the National League did for his team? Now he punishes Houston because Arizona probably paid him under the table to stay.

Bud Selig must pay for the damage he caused to the Houston franchise. Mr. "conflict of interest" still has CLOSE ties to the Brewers and probably runs them in the shadows. Goofy old fart.

Thats A (as in triple A) American league baseball, there. But the upside is after deminishing the brand for a decade or so, someone else will be able to pick up the 'stros for pennies. Yippy.

Sad day for Houston sports if the Astros go to the AL  --

Jim Crane hasn't even been approved and he's already on the short list of worst Houston sports owners ever. Maybe we'll get lucky and another of his endless skeletons will fall out of the closet before the vote in November.

Better to move the Rays out west (they're a failure in Tampa), move the Brewers back to the AL Central and the Tigers back to the AL East. San Antonio Missions (formerly Rays) anyone?

I've thought for years the DH would be a great fit in Denver.

Other than the wonderful World Series trip a few years ago, most days have been sad for Astro fans.

Most amateur leagues, most minor leagues and all international leagues have some sort of DH.

Get over it.

I hate the DH rule too, but saying the AL isn't baseball is a little harsh, don't you think?

Awesome, we'll be just like the minor leagues and college ball. Maybe we should institute the aluminum bat?
