How Things Change: Technology in 1991, 2001 and 2011, Graphically Displayed

I was stylin' and profilin' with one of these bad boys back in the day.
A lot changes in 20 years, perhaps nothing to the degree technology does. When talking about the ten-year anniversary of 9/11, I began thinking about the massive changes that have taken place in just that ten years, but go back another ten and it's even more startling. Many of those changes are products of the Internet, but not all of them.

Think about it like this. In 1991, you might have met your nerd wife at a Star Trek Convention, acted like a big shot by calling her on your Motorola brick and tried to have a little phone sex. In 2001, she might have caught your eye from across a crowded cyber cafe, where you exchanged e-mails and perhaps had a sexy online chat. Today, you'd probably drunkenly rant to her about your personal brand at a Tweet Up, while texting your buddy on your iPhone.

Ah, the miracles of technology. To make it easier, we've provided this handy little chart to see how things were back in the day versus today. See if you can remember when after the jump.

One thing about that 2001 Nokia phone, it was a durable mutherfucker. I can't tell you how many nights I dropped it, threw it, dried water out of it and it rang and dialed all the same. Plus it had that lame ass Snake game on it, which while lame as shit was addicting as hell.

The world has gotten lamer.

Best phone I ever had. Couldn't be broken, and you're right about that addicting game.

A buddy of mine had one of those for almost 10 years when he finally got a smartphone. He said the same thing about how tough it was.
