Gun-Control Group Gives Rick Perry Great Boost (Among Gun Nuts)

WHAT? Rick Perry opposes gun-control laws?
The Brady Campaign, perhaps the nation's most prominent gun-control group, has just given Rick Perry a big ol' helping hand in the GOP primaries.

They've released a report called Gunslinger: Rick Perry's Reckless Record on Guns, highlighting his record.

"Not only is Rick Perry an extremist on guns, but he seems to be proud of it," said Brady Campaign Acting President Dennis Henigan. "Perry has been marinating in radical pro-gun ideology for so long he seems to have lost the capacity for common sense on this life-and-death issue."

Well, yeah, but we can't help reading the highlights pointed out by the group and seeing Perry and his Tea Partiers go, "Yeah, so what?" after each one.

When asked if he carries a concealed weapon while he campaigns, Perry refused to answer outright. Instead, he thought it was a joking matter, replying, "That's why it's called concealed."

He joked about it? There goes South Carolina!!

His belief that it's commendable, and seemingly necessary, for Americans to carry guns with hollow point bullets and laser sights in the course of routine activities, such as jogging. "Texans, on the other hand, elect folks like me. You know the type, the kind of guy who goes jogging in the morning, packing a Ruger .380 with laser sights and loaded with hollow-point bullets....." Perry explained in his book, Fed Up!

Perry will be so pissed that this passage that he wrote himself is becoming well-known.

His support for the carrying of loaded guns in secondary schools, all the way down to the kindergarten level, as well as on college campuses.
What? Kindergartners can't be part of a well-regulated milita?

Just wait until GOP voters find out about all this....

The Brady people just want everybody to be disarmed so that criminals can do whatever they want just like in Chicago, Obama's hometown and NYC were criminals have all the rights. Yes I lived in both and guess what the criminals are free to rob, murder and rape at will because the people don't have weapons or police protection !!!

Yes, thank God there was only one armed person on the Virginia Tech campus that day. Lord knows what might have happened had there been a second armed person... the mind shudders.

By "radical pro-gun ideology" they seem to mean "completely mainstream beliefs about firearms and gun rights".

I suppose someone in their echo-chamber might believe it's "radical pro-gun ideology" to let citizens with clean criminal records carry the means of self-defense.

Problem with that is, that nobody else buys that and it makes them look like sheltered tools, at best.

Even people who think carry is icky and bad are aware that it's not "radical".

There's a reason that lawful concealed carry is the law of the land, and that is that it's mainstream ideology.

37 states say that a permit must be issued to anyone qualified (and in two more it's notionally optional but effectively shall-issue). In four more states there isn't even a permit requirement - oddly these states are not bathed in blood.

Ten more states "may issue" a permit (but a few of those effectively won't, proving the advocate's point that "may issue" means "no rights").

Only two states completely ban concealed carry for civilians - and both of those are under fire for it.

Who's "radical", again? Sounds like it's the Brady Campaign that has the "radical ideology" out of step with the American people and the Constitution ... and reality.

I would actually feel more comfortable if my children's teachers were armed, not less.

If all gun owners are gun nuts, then the rest of you anit guners are "gun wimps". We all approved of existing gun laws and just wish the Obama wimps would enforce the laws already on the books. And No! dummy, kindergarteners do not become part of the militia. Their teachers are allowed to carry a concealed firearm into the school if they are properly licensed. If teachers had been armed some of the terrible shooting tragedies at schools might have been prevented. When you get accosted by a mugger armed with a big knife, just remember the police will be there to protect you....in maybe 20-25 minutes.

When is someone going to ask Perry about his radical pro-Just For Men Brown Die #12 platform?

Guns don't kill people, bullets do.

What is a "Gun Nut?"  Is that the opposite of a "Crime Nut?"

If guns are an issue, you would do well to look at the gun laws Romney signed while he was governor of Massachusetts.  You would vomit.  I can't wait until that comes up in a debate.  Perry's gonna own him.

Pearl High School, 10-1-97.  Proof.  Pudding.  Some assembly required.  Wish the principal had been carrying (concealed!! OMG!!1!) instead of having to go get his pistol from his car.

Probably not. Of course Demolosers might bring up that question as they have nothing better to ask.

If you really are a Perry aide, do your boss a favor and quit posting.

Out of all the names I've heard any political party around the world called, that has to be the worst.

Exactly. I'm not a big fan of either party, but I do identify with the left. That being said, I do enjoy some jokes lobbed at the left if they are funny. The only good jokes I ever hear about the left are usually from comedians from the left. I don't really care what party or political stance someone makes fun of, I care more about the quality of the joke.Which brings us to the issue of internet trolls. They are not here to make good jokes, they are here to piss people off. What pisses me off are the crap jokes. Would it kill some of the people here to actually be a tiny bit funny? They are already commenting, why not take a minute or two extra to make it entertaining. These awful political puns are the Larry the Cable Guy: They are both everywhere, even though they are god awful.

Yeah.

I mean, I don't really like today's Democratic party. (I don't really like the Republicans much either, but that's politics for you.)

But that's not only bad form (namecalling just makes you look like a jerk, and doesn't tell us anything about your opponent, just about you), but it's lame.

It's not even effective namecalling.
