Teacher Taunts Muslim Student Over bin Laden Death

Categories: Education

Cross off another candidate.
A local high school algebra teacher has been suspended for making incredibly stupid comments to one of his students, taunting her that he bet she was grieving over Osama bin Laden's death.

What? A humor-impaired math teacher? Something new every day.

As KTRK seems to have been the first to report, the Clear Brook High teacher made the comment to an American-born student who is Muslim.

The station says the kid's mother said things happened this way:

The teacher told the student that 'I bet you're grieving.' And she basically looked at him and said what are you talking about? And he said I heard about your uncle's death and she said wow, because she understood that he was referring about Osama bin Laden being killed and was racially profiling her."

Neither the name of the teacher or the student were released.

But the Clear Creek ISD did put out a statement:

In the Clear Creek Independent School District, we believe diversity strengthens our community and seek opportunities to celebrate the different cultures within our schools and neighborhoods. The sentiments allegedly shared by this teacher are not reflective of the staff at Clear Brook High School or anyone within the Clear Creek Independent School District. In accordance with CCISD policy, the teacher has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a personnel investigation.

The student did the right thing and immediately notified an adult regarding the teachers' comments. The principal at Clear Brook High School notified the child's parents and has been in communication with the family.

There was no indication of what witty remarks the teacher came up with for Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday.

Lighten up. It's just a little joke. Where is everyone's sense of humor. It's kind of like waiting for the short bus and then taunting the kids getting off of it. Get over it, people.

I understand that several of the student's claassmates comforted her and even reported the incident the school administrators

This is more commonplace than people would like to admit. I went to Beckendorf Intermediate in Tomball, and I was terrorized by teachers and students over my religious beliefs. They wanted to expel me because they felt my religious beliefs were "disruptive," even though the only thing being disrupted was my education when both students and teachers were calling me a Satanist and devil-worshiper. They called my mom in each week and asked her, "Why doesn't she just believe in the Ten Commandments?" Yes, this is the type of shenanigans that go on in the suburbs.

Damn disgraceful. A bully to a student, why doesn't he sign up for a tour of duty or two?

Now if we had more teachers like that making cuts would be easier.
