Osama Bin Laden Mission: Rick Perry & Greg Abbott Weigh in Without Mentioning Obama

nydanhed050211.jpg
Neither went so far as the New York Daily News.
The world has presumably been waiting breathlessly for the chance to know exactly what Governor Rick Perry and Attorney General Greg Abbott think about the death of Osama Bin Laden. The wait is over.

Both politicos issued statements this morning, neither of which happened to mention President Obama. (To be fair, at least neither of them mention President Bush.)

Perhaps they were just trying to be as politically neutral as KTRH's Michael Berry, who announced a "nonpartisan" celebratory rally tonight, and ended the e-mail with a lame joke about Sheila Jackson Lee.

The thoughts of the two men on this occasion:

Perry said:

After years on the run, Osama bin Laden was finally brought to justice Sunday night. On behalf of all Texans, I'd like to extend our gratitude to the brave men and women of our military and intelligence communities who devoted their lives to tracking this individual down, particularly the members of our valiant special forces who flew into harm's way Sunday to finally put an end to bin Laden's murderous reign.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with those who will continue to wage our global fight on terror, placing their own lives on the line to keep us safe back here at home.

Abbott:

The face of evil has been eradicated thanks to American forces' dogged pursuit of justice. The Twin Towers may no longer stand, but American justice -- and exceptionalism -- will forever prevail. We will never forget.

Hey, a little Fox News dog-whistle on the old "American exceptionalism" trope. Abbott FTW!!!

USA1, you go girl!

It was Clinton's fault that he was alive to bomb the towers and W's torture programs that lead to his killing.

And Obama didn't mention President Bush in his account either (http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/.... It was Bush's policy of interogating prisoners that uncovered the details that led to Bin Laden. Too bad Mr. Obama ended that policy of interogating prisoners. Who knows what else we might have discovered.

Mark my words:

Aside from trying to shift the bulk of credit away from the Commander in Chief and to the troops/intelligence....

Bush apologists will soon be saying that torture and 'expansive interrogation techniques' were what was *really* responsible for the nailing of Bin Laden.

....just a hunch... American exceptionalism minus (this) president...but credit to the exceptional American torture of the last president (Cheney/Bush).

I'd be curious what these two pols were saying while the US was training, funding and arming Bin Laden during his struggle against the Soviets in Afghanistan in the 80's.

Wager: they were saying Bin Laden was a valiant "Freedom Fighter", an seeker of independence and liberty as good as any son of Texas, battling against the godless communist regime. And that the administration supporting him was a just, upright and outstanding group of idealists.

Osama BL was our little Frankenstein.

Well Obama thanked himself enough during his speech last night that Perry and Abbott took a different route and chose to thank the military servicemen that actually did the work.

I'm not sure why either of these knucklehead's thoughts on this matter are newsworthy.

Obama could waive all taxes on hair spray and Slick Rick still wouldn't thank him. Neither of these dolts acknowledging Obama is par for the course. As much as I enjoy laughing at the Texas Secession morons, I am seriously thinking about starting a Houston Secession Group. Houston > the rest of the state.

Yep, here we go: it was torture that led to landing the big fish.

Except that guys in charge of interrogation dispute this. The details you mention is that Osama had couriers. Well blow me over, really? And that came after a year of waterboarding. Very efficient at eliciting info!

Too bad Bush said that he didn't care about catching or killing Osama. But I understand you, really. What Rush says must be the truth, so don't let history or facts get in the way.

If President Clinton had accepted Bin Laden on a platter as was offered, we may never have had to endure a September 11th. Then again the US embassy bombings and the USS Cole didn't register much with that guy.

Al, I find you puritan standards of modesty refreshing. Do tell, what did you think of President Bush (the Dumber)'s humility and conduct:1) when he claimed to have flown/landed a light bomber on a pitching deck after 20+ years away from the rutter 2) claimed Mission Accomplished 3)made a specticle of himself (and baffoons of the rest of us) while quoting a sound bite from a 40-year-old TV show?

It's clear you didn't listened to that clown any more than you listened to President Obama, otherwise you might be a little more credible.

You didn't listen to the speech if you think he just thanked himself. Typical republican loony, doesn't listen to anything but the voice in your head.

I take it you didn't actually watch the speech. But hey, if being pissy and smarmy get you off, have at it.

I don't think you'll get too far with that group, considering the majority of Texans and Houstonians support Perry and voted for him. He's one of the greatest governor's of any state. I guess you don't like all the economic power we have that he has helped foster, or the relative insulation we have had from the recession. Maybe you would rather someone who institute's an income tax, or can waste billions of dollars on unneeded social programs. He's not perfect and has had some ill fated ideas, but he's abandoned those that the people have spoken on.

If Eric Holder had his way, Osama might still be alive today. The waterboarding of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed yielded information that prevented a planned attack on Heathrow airport and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed gave up info that led to the encounter with Osama Bin Laden. If Holder had his stateside trial he and Obama sought, none of that would have been usable, it'd been obtained under duress. Good thing they flip flopped on the NYC trial.

Obama is claiming it's been his top priority since being elected. Just like getting Americans back to work and plugging that hole. How many times did he mention his hunt for Osama Bin Laden in his State of the Union speeches?

Simple simon. 'Offered on a platter'. Can you expound on that a bit?

The "self-congratulations" meme was started by Limbaugh this morning. (I tuned in on a 10 minute car ride to see if he could manage to be civil. Nope.)

BG is simply parroting his favorite drug addict. Nothing new. No sheep to see here. Move along.

Maybe you didn't watch the speech, he was very self appreciating. But hey, if being a sheep following your ignorant liberal mouthpieces instead of thinking on your own get's you off, have at it. Don't worry, the rest of us will handle things for you.

Relative insulation from the recession? Yeah right! That Texas economic miracle that had them fooled (you included) until recently.Dream on though, if he's your man.

Erwa claims that he offered to hand bin Laden over to the United States. Key American players – President Bill Clinton, then-National Security Adviser Sandy Berger and Director of Counterterrorism Richard Clarke among them – have testified there were no "credible offers" to hand over bin Laden. The 9/11 Commission found "no credible evidence" that Erwa had ever made such an offer. On the other hand, Lawrence Wright, in his Pulitzer Prize-winning "The Looming Tower," flatly states that Sudan did make such an offer. Wright bases his judgment on an interview with Erwa and notes that those who most prominently deny Erwa's claims were not in fact present for the meeting.

Wright and the 9/11 Commission do agree that the Clinton administration encouraged Sudan to deport bin Laden back to Saudi Arabia and spent 10 weeks trying to convince the Saudi government to accept him. One Clinton security official told The Washington Post that they had "a fantasy" that the Saudi government would quietly execute bin Laden. When the Saudis refused bin Laden’s return, Clinton officials convinced the Sudanese simply to expel him, hoping that the move would at least disrupt bin Laden’s activities.

Much of the controversy stems from claims that President Clinton made in a February 2002 speech and then retracted in his 2004 testimony to the 9/11 Commission. In the 2002 speech Clinton seems to admit that the Sudanese government offered to turn over bin Laden...

----Makes you wonder just what WAS in those documents that Sandy Berger admits to stealing and destroying that he smuggled out of the National Archives.

I guess this incompetent President just lucked into the tactical budget squishing of the Repubs, as well as accomplishing this difficult mission.

Yep, he's in way over his head. Just an empty suit.
