Alex Ford: 80 MPH in a 30 MPH zone
Despite her fervent plea to avoid prison time, Houstonian Alex Ford -- who drunkenly drove a Maserati into a College Station cop, severely injuring the officer -- was given a six-year sentence and a $10,000 fine yesterday.

She was also ordered to pay more than $70,000 to cover medical expenses incurred by CSPD officer Tracy Sheets, who nearly lost a leg in the incident and can no longer work as a patrol officer.

The jury convicted her of intoxicated assault; her lawyer said after the trial he plans to appeal.

Testimony during the trial showed she plowed into Sheets while doing 80 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. Two male passengers who had been in the car with the 23-year-old bartender that night testified they had warned her about her erratic driving, and one kissed the ground in thanks when he exited the car.

She blew a 0.164 on the breathalyzer, but in the punishment phase of the trial she said she still did not think she was drunk at the time of the incident.

She had borrowed the Maserati from a friend who works on exotic cars, testimony showed.

Her attorney, Craig Greaves, told local radio station WTAW that the jury's decision to give prison time instead of parole could partly be traced to the influence of seeing large numbers of uniformed police in the audience supporting Sheets.

This chick deserves every year and more.  Freaking douchebag lawyer appealing this should get the same too.

"Her attorney, Craig Greaves, told local radio station WTAW that the jury's decision to give prison time instead of parole could partly be traced to the influence of seeing large numbers of uniformed police in the audience supporting Sheets." Or it could have something to do with disabling someone for life. Or her entitlement-driven, excuse-ridden attitude. Or that she sees nothing wrong with driving erraticly 50 MPH over the limit while plastered. Whatevs.

The fact she was driving a Maserati (which was probably a 4 seat sedan) has no bearing on this. Same thing could have happened in a Corolla.

OK. And the same thing could have happened if the perp was a man instead of a woman. Or if the incident had taken place in Huntsville instead of College Station. Or if she hit a fireman instead of a policeman.

But these are the facts, so that's what gets reported in the story.
