Jessica Tata faces a longer sentence
The stakes have been raised against Jessica Tata, the owner of the daycare center where four children died in a fire.

Previously charged with manslaughter, now Tata faces murder charges after court filings yesterday by the Harris County District Attorney's office.

The documents charge her with abandoning the children and exposing them to "an unreasonable risk of harm."

The felony charges each carry a sentence of five to 99 years, although probation would be possible.

Tata has hired Mike DeGeurin as her attorney; he previously has said Tata fought to save the kids.

"She broke windows with her hands, bloodied her arms. She crawled in twice," he told reporters when Tata was first charged. "A third time in is when she passed out, before the firemen got there. So, it was just a horror movie going on."

Video footage shows Tata at a Walmart just before the fatal fire last month.

After the blaze, and after being questioned by investigators, she flew to Nigeria. She is now in jail until she makes a $200,000 bond on each of the four charges.

This woman is a monster to have left those poor babies! Especially with something on the stove. Then when you see the video of her she doesn't even look upset a normal person would be hysterical! Then she is covering her face in shame on that stretcher there were no cuts on her arms she and her lawyer are liars. Ihope she gets life or the death penalty if possible. God bless the families of the poor babies I hope you will get the justice you all deserve.

Wonderful news. She was entrusted with the care of these little children and neglected them horribly. It pains me to think of how scared those little babies must have been in a burning home all alone. My heart goes out to their poor families. I'm glad the DA is going after Ms. Tata with the full extent of the law and I hope justice is served.

Um, she had visited a Target, not a Walmart.

Okay, 1st of all I feel horrible for everyone involved… Including Jessica. I myself have an in-home daycare with infants and young toddlers. My first thought when I read all this was how in the world does she get out of the house without any children. As I read on and learned more I hear that she left the children unattended to go shopping! I don’t care who you think you are you NEVER ever leave children under the age of 3 unattended. Especially 7 children and ESPECIALLY a daycare provider… It is our job to protect and care for these children with all we have and there is no excuse to leave them unattended. I tried to think of some reasoning like the children were taking a nap or they were confined in cribs or something but the news says the children were left running around the house. Can you imagine what those children were going threw, there little tiny bodies burning as they try to escape or look for the person they DEPEND on to protect them. Sorry but I think Jessica deserves to be charged with murder. She was never in the right mind set to be caring for children in the first place.

Here is a link to the photo taken of her just after the fire, when police were trying to question her. No blood on her arms or clothes .. not even so much as a scratch on her arms. It will be interesting to see how her attorney can continue this story about her trying break windows, without himself being charged with perjury.

Her lawyer is lying his ass off. If you look at the video that was on all the channels while the firemen were at work, she is standing around biting her bottom lip and chewing on her fingernails. There is not one fucking bandage on any arm, no blood on either arm, and no apparent scratches on her arms. What a baldfaced liar.

It's the story he's telling the press, not the one he's telling in court. He can do his best to somehow imply through the evidence that she ran into the house, but if he knows better, he can't outright state it. But in the court of human opinion, he can say that Tata sprouted wings before attempting to fly into the blaze and put it out with ice cream pops.
