"Choose Life": Bill to Put Your Religious and Political Views on Texas License Plates Passes Senate

Holier than thou, person stuck behind me in traffic
State Senator Dan Patrick is proudly reporting that the Texas Senate has passed by a 21-10 vote his bill creating license plates that say "Choose Life," thereby, we guess, breaking off the crippling shackles of all those Texans who have been previously prevented from shoving their religious and political views in everyone's faces.

The Senate passed the bill in 2009 but the House didn't approve, even though Governor Rick Perry called the plates "a subtle but meaningful way to express their personal view."

With the Tea Party make-up of this session's House, approval is expected.

Proceeds from the sale of the vanity plates will go to adoption organizations.

Here's the bill text on where the money, administered by the attorney general, can go:

Money received by an eligible organization under this section may be spent only to provide for the material needs of pregnant women who are considering placing their children for adoption, including the provision of clothing, housing, prenatal care, food, utilities, and transportation, to provide for the needs of infants who are awaiting placement with adoptive parents, to provide training and advertising relating to adoption, and to provide pregnancy testing or pre-adoption or postadoption counseling, but may not be used to pay an administrative, legal, or capital expense.

Organizations that are affiliated or contract with groups that "provide abortions or abortion-related services or make referrals to abortion providers" are not eligible for funds; religious groups specifically are.

How about a license plate that supports the child once it's born? Maybe a license plate that supports CHIP, pre-K education, literacy programs, school lunches, etc.? Like George Carlin said, the pro-lifers are concerned about children when it's in the womb, and completely forget about it after it's born until it turns 18 and can join the military.

I have a feeling Dan Patrick doesn't get laid much, hence his huge concern with other people's reproductive functions. Google the cover of the porn film "Asian Giants Volume 1" and you'll understand why Dan Patrick legislates the way he does.

if we can truly express our views, I want a symbol of an X through a triangle.

Can I get a "choose life" plate with a military theme?

Real irony would be if someone over at TCEQ got one these plates after signing off on yet another coal-fired power plant.

So since im pro choice does that mean I have the right to make a plate that says choose death? Not that i would, Im just saying. Texans are so ass backwards. Everything may be bigger, but they are hell of a lot dumber.

Howzabout a license that says, "WHY VOTE,THEN?"????

Using license plates for anything other than clear and legible vehicle identification is stupid. They are not billboards. If you wish to express your view on something to people who really don't give a sht then plaster the rear of your car with bumper stickers. They're cheaper than custom plates and you can easily cover one with another when your opinion changes.

I hate to break it to the dumb fcks at this blog...but abortion is NOT a religious issue. (Not that I expect bloggers to understand...after all...that is why they are bloggers and don't have real jobs that pay enough to feed themselves without food stamps.)

SCIENTISTS and DOCTORS also argue about when life begins.

Let me try to say it like youare all 5 years old, since I believe you all are, at least in brain develpment.

No one knows when life begins. Some thingtbegins at conception. Some think it beginss at birth. Others think it begins when the fetus could survive outside the womb.

Meanwhile NO ONE in their right mind would think it is OK to kill a human life. You won't find many people saying "I believe life beginss at concetion, but I am in favor of abortion."

Therefore, this has nothing to do with religion. People who believe that life begins at conception (again, which inlcudes about 50% ofhte dotctors and scientists) are against abortion.

Honestly...writing just isn't your thing. Jounalism clearly isn't your thing. Find some other way to make $100 a week.

Is there an option for a Pro-Choice license plate?

It would be interesting to hear what that radical leftist Paul Bettencourt has to say about this. I rememeber a few years back he was complaining that all of these message plates are a pain and expensive for local tax assessor-collectors to administer. Smaller government . . .

Hmm… I’m sure that someone’s tested it in Florida or one of the other states where they’ve approved these plates before, but… Theoretically, it COULD be content discrimination not to let pro-choicers have alternate plates. Once you’ve opened up the abortion plate can of worms, I mean.

But Let’s face it: Texans will never REALLY have freedom of religion until my license plate features the Flying Spaghetti Monster with a fetus in one tentacle and a Texas flag in another. That’s just good taste…

Can I have "Republicans Suck" on my license plate?

how about creating a license plate that supports the education system?

"Choose Life" also means "Anti-Death Penalty", right?

Right?????

This is a great idea, as it will help law enforcement. Whenever the cops see a minivan prowling around Montrose with one of these plates on the back, they'll IMMEDIATELY know that they are cruising for underage male prostitutes, and can get those perverts off the street.

By the way, if you are going to call all Texans dumb, you may want to make sure your comment doesn't look like it was written in the schoolyard during recess, spencey.

No, why would there be a license plate condoning the murder of babies?

Sometimes, so does being a dick.

Only leftists would actually try to compare innocent, unborn babies to heartless, brutal murderers.

Yeah, because everyone who is against the murder of babies is a gay child molester. Uh-huh!

I see the problem. You interpreted my constitutional comment as a joke.

It wasn’t really intended as a joke. Government can keep a subject off the table so to speak – no gun rights floats in a parade, no war-related yard signs in a certain area, etc. But once government opens up a forum up to a topic, they can’t (generally) discriminate against one side of a topic of public import.

That’s probably not funny, either, huh? The writers of the Constitution were sort of Gilbert Gottfried-quality comedians.

The Dems can pen a bill to do that anytime they wish. Where is it?

Unborn babies?Retard, a cluster of cells is not a baby. A fly has more life in it than these "unborn babies", and I'm sure you're not going around saying "Stop the Killing of Innocent Flies!!".

(Killing flies is wrong...they have souls too!)

Oh, then you shouldn't worry about it. We only abort the ones that are going to grow up to be heartless, brutal murderers.

So, you admit it.

They could. It wouldn't pass, but they could present one.
