Tom DeLay Gets Jail Time

The Hammer gets the slammer
Tom DeLay's sentence has been handed out, and it's not a slap on the wrist: He's going to prison for three years with no probation on the conspiracy charges.

DeLay was also sentenced by judge Pat Priest to 10 years' probation on a money-laundering charge, according to tweets from reporters covering the Austin hearing.

He will be allowed to stay free pending appeal, the reports say.

At one point DeLay, who once ruled the House of Representatives with an iron fist, told the judge he couldn't be sorry for something he thought he hadn't done, according to reports.

He was convicted of laundering corporate money to Texas candidates in an effort to put Republicans in charge of redistricting that greatly benefited the party.

We'll update with reaction as it comes in.

The Left shows yet again, how much Stalin would smile upon them. This was a totally politically motivated prosecutor, using a jury of cherry-picked morons, and is all about a muddled mess of campaign laws.

The Left is the true enemy of civil rights and has no respect for the rule of law.

More than well-deserved. First hopeful sign of the 2011 political season.

Law wins here. Maybe now that the criminal lobbying laws are in place, thanks to a cherry-picked core of Supremes, he could do what he did. But at the time he was operating as the hubristic hammer, he clearly broke the law. Sorry.

Good God, were you born stupid or did you develop it over time?

The rule of law has spoken on this matter.
