The Chevy Cobalt: Not So Safe After All

There's nothing wrong with the Chevy Cobalt. It's an affordable little car that gets pretty good gas mileage on the highway, but is it really worth killing over? According to Houston police, the answer appears to be yes.

Huu Khanh Phung, 55, was in his silver-colored Cobalt near the intersection of Cullen and Almeda Genoa in south Houston at about 12:15 a.m. Wednesday morning when suddenly a man jumped out of a minivan and approached Phung. Police say witnesses tell them that they heard several gun shots and then saw the minivan and Phung's Cobalt speed away on Cullen. Phung was lying in the middle of the street, dead. The carjacking appears to have been short-lived as police found both vehicles abandoned nearby. Police say they are looking for three suspects.

Two suspects in the killing of a Houston firefighter's daughter have been arrested. On Wednesday, Harris County sheriff's detectives caught and charged Terri Lynn Wallace with murder for her alleged involvement in the killing of Michelle Lira, 23, earlier this month. Investigators say Wallace drove the get-away car while her boyfriend, Selestino Torres, shot and killed Lira.

According to the sheriff's office, at about 7 a.m. on July 6, Lira and her mother, Ramona Gomez, 46, were in their car leaving their home on the 13700 block of Whitchurch when Lira's ex-boyfriend, Torres, walked up to them. He tried to talk to Lira through the car window as Lira and her mother backed out of their driveway. When Lira refused to speak with Torres, investigators say, Torres pulled out a gun and fired into the car, killing Lira and wounding Gomez.

Torres, 23, was arrested Saturday and charged with murder and attempted murder. Investigators arrested Wallace at her sister's home in Galveston County on Wednesday.

Houston police are also investigating what appears to be an attempted suicide and fatal shooting of a woman at 7025 Longview Wednesday night. According to police, Houston firefighters witnessed a Hispanic man shoot himself while they tended to a 21-year-old woman lying on the ground. The woman, who was shot one time, was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital in stable condition, police say.

Due to faulty control arm bushings, the American based Chevy Motors has recently recalled its well-known Cobalt model in order to fix the problem.

I don't think Cobalt is one unsafe model. I've already a Chevy model available at me and this is going on perfectly. This is the reason, I'm in favor of a Chevy.

Who gave you permission to write about my niece and my sister law. M. Lira and R. Gomez. Who gave the right to post her address and picture of her home online. You've put her mother in more danger you moron. What does this senseless crime have to do with your stupid cause. Absolutely nothing ignorant people with no facts. Remove from your website or lawsuit will follow.
