Monster Jam: Absurdly Huge Trucks to Crush Cars This Weekend, Unprovoked

Ballz is losing confidence in the upcoming third Batman installment.

Many people might see this as Super Bowl weekend, but I know that, for some reason, there are many of you out there who see this Saturday as being the most important day of the weekend. That's because it's the Monster Jam at Reliant Park.

That's right, the place is being invaded once again by rednecks in jacked-up trucks that shatter eardrums and shake foundations to their cores.

I don't get this event. I never have, and I doubt that I ever will. It is an event with huge trucks doing wheelies and smashing junked-up cars. And yet thousands of people cram into the stadium, cheering loudly whenever a car is smashed by one of these behemoths.

Supposedly it's a sport. But it's unlike any sport of which I'm aware. NASCAR is stupid, but at least it makes sense: a bunch of rednecks making left turns for two hours with the goal of being the first one to complete a set number of laps. Same thing with Indy Car. And I can see how the Supercross can be a sport. The racers are on motorcycles racing dirt tracks with huge hills to fly over, all in hopes of being the first to the finish line.

I say this having seen dozens of these stupid Monster Jam events. I had to work these events when I worked with the Astrodome video crew, and neither I nor any of my other colleagues could ever figure out what was going on with the damn thing.

How is smashing a car a competitive event? And why do the people go so nuts over a vehicle like Grave Digger? It doesn't make any sense to me.

I've got to confess. The more I see events like this, the more convinced I become that Mike Judge is one of the world's great visionaries. Though with the popularity of Monster Truck events, it's my belief that the future he envisioned isn't hundreds of years in the future, it's now.
