That Empty Lot Next Door May Stay Empty A Long Time, Suburban Guy
Kimball Hill Homes announced it's filing for bankruptcy.
"We deeply regret the necessity of today's decision, but given the current housing and financial market conditions we are simply unable to conduct normal operations while the Company continues its sale efforts," said Ken Love, Chief Executive Officer.
The company's website shows that Kimball Homes has developments throught the Houston burbs, mostly on the west and northwest side outside Highway 6.
Fox 26 talked to homeowners worried about empty lots next to their newly built homes. They're not too happy.
The Chicago-based company also builds homes nationwide, including Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin and San Antonio.
It's the second big Houston builder to go bust this year. Royce Builders, which was actually based here, collapsed this summer, as memorably chronicled by Swamplot.
For what it's worth, Kimball Homes has set up a hotline for homeowners with questions. Call 1-877-631-3923 if you dare; we got a busy signal.
