Jim Carrey, Ewan McGregor & A Former Press Reporter Ready For Sundance

sundance-morris4.jpgWant to see Jim Carrey making out with Ewan McGregor?

You can, thanks to former Houston Press reporter Steve McVicker.

The film based on Press stories he wrote about a relentless con man, I Love You Phillip Morris, will be showing at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival, and publicity is starting to build.

This site has several photos from the film. (He also mistakenly calls McVicker a Houston Chronicle reporter; Steve now works for an attorney in town.)

Another movie site says the studio has been aggressive in deleting leaked video of the film's trailer.

But he's seen it, and here's his take on it:

[I]t's very strange indeed.
The film stars Jim Carrey as an upstanding, religious family man who suddenly goes gay, steals money, gets caught and goes to prison where he's cell mates with a guy named Phillip Morris, played by Ewan McGregor. They fall in love. Carrey gets transferred, and spends a lot of time longing for his soulmate Morris.
Is it a comedy? A satire? A drama? I really can't tell.

As we've noted before, McVicker has a cameo as a judge. Whether it survived the cutting-room floor, we'll have to see.

The movie is scheduled to open wide Valentine's Day. You can read McVicker's original Press stories about Russell here and here and here and here.
