Rusty Yates On His Life Now

Categories: Spaced City
Rusty Yates, the husband of baby-drowning Andrea, has thrust himself into the spotlight again.

He was on Good Morning America today, talking about how happy and terrific life is for him right now, seven years after Andrea drowned their five babies.

Reports ABC:

The new father has even shared pictures through e-mail of son Mark, who was born March 20, with Andrea, who now resides in a San Antonio psychiatric hospital after she was found not guilty by reason of insanity in her children's deaths.

"She's like, 'He's so cute.' She was pretty excited."

Yates has remarried, despite video evidence that he never quite has lost that goofy look on his face.

He and Andrea communicate by e-mail once a week and by phone once a month or so, ABC says.

"From the beginning, Rusty Yates had always been supportive of Andrea, who suffered from postpartum psychosis," ABC says.

Which we guess is true, but as far as we can tell GMA didn't go into the subject of wacky fundamentalist cult leader Yates subjected Andrea to.

(Andrea told a psychiatrist the day after her arrest: ""My children were not righteous. I let them stumble. They were doomed to perish in the fires of hell....The way I was raising them they could never be saved. ... Better for someone else to tie a millstone around their neck and cast them in a river than stumble. They were going to perish.")

Maybe they'll ask the next time he does a network interview.

My Voice Nation Help

Rusty Yates is a criminal and everyone in Texas should be ashamed for prosecuting a sick woman and letting the real perpetrator go free. It's shameful for our entire society, Andrea Yates deserves better. And I'll be praying for the blessed day his son comes home with a boyfriend!

I disagree with dogmomma.

Rusty Yates should have been held accountable! She was severely ill. Supposedly he was not but he kept wanting more children. He couldn't properly support his family and he just didn't care. The stupid look on his face turns my stomach. I could not understand how he can grin while discussing the case. He now has a new wife and new family, which shouldn't have happened. He belongs in prison.

I agree completely with Annie72tennis.  People just don't seem to recognize the problems caused by fundamentalist religious wackos of any religion.  The more right wing, the more trouble.  Just look at the Middle East.  More mayhem has been wrought in the name of religion than the world at large realizes.  And fundamentalist Christians are not exempt.

What bothers me most about the Andrea Yates' case is that her then-husband Rusty was never charged with anything.

He should have at least been charged with child negligence.  At most he could have been charged with some form of domestic violence, in not getting his wife the care she so desperately needed, as well as ignoring mental health professionals (at least one psychiatrist) who told them flat out they shouldn't have more children (after Andrea's 2nd or 3rd child).

Being the religious loony Rusty is, I'm sure he thought that no one was going to tell him what to do.  His comment to those who were concerned was "We're going to have as many kids as God wants us to have."  Or words to that effect.

I told friends I discussed the case with, that as soon as Andrea was convicted, Rusty would quietly divorce her, remarry some poor clueless religious loony twit who knew her place (at home, barefoot and pregnant) and have kid after kid with the brainless sap.

Rusty didn't disappoint me.

I hope he rots in hell.  He deserves to.  I'd also wished that Andrea had given Rusty an involuntary vasectomy, with a rusty cleaver and no anesthesia.

Andrea was psychotic and didn't know what she was doing.  I still feel sorry for her.

@PenelopeC what would you be in prison for that you only thought about doing?Rusty did not kill the kids, had he known what was going to happen or what she was doing that would have been another story.

My boyfriend loves my dick, says it's bigger than his.

I agree with you completely!
