Showing at the old Reliant Park dog show in 2006, this Chinese Crested was acting all conceited.
Dogs get a bad rap when it comes to news coverage of late, but one thing that we really look forward to hearing about is those lovely show dogs. Those pure breeds who saunter and wag their stuff at our annual dog show.

And did you know, a dog from this area made national dog show history.

This year, the Houston show's title takes a hyper-local turn, changing to the Houston World Series of Dog Shows. It was formerly known as the Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows, which would have had to change to the NRG Stadium Dog Show, or something like that, if organizers had stuck with the old naming convention.

"Changing the name from 'Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows' to 'Houston World Series of Dog Shows' helps associate the dog show more firmly with Houston," show chairperson Tom Pincus said.

Yes, we definitely like the H-Town shout-out in the new name.

The American Kennel Club-sanctioned event draws more than 40,000 people, and this year runs from July 16 to 20.
