Linsanity Rewind: This 2012 Linsanity ABC Promo for a Knicks Game Is Crazy
Someday, perhaps the good folks at ESPN will look back at the "Linsanity" portion of Jeremy Lin's NBA career, those magical few weeks in Feb. 2012, and put together a 30 for 30, or at the very least a 30 for 30 short.
Photo by Jason Nou Where'd all the Lin-Sanity go?
And might I suggest that if this film does come off, that ESPN ask for the rights to the open for Star Wars. You know, "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..."
Because that's about what Linsanity feels like right about now if you watch Lin night to night like we do in Houston.
Two years ago? Feels like twenty years ago.
It's crazy to think that there was a time when the backup point guard we are watching now, the one who dribbles aimlessly in the half court and who looks like a deer in the headlights from long distance, was dominating the league for a few weeks just a couple years ago. I mean, flat out BALLING.
Lin was making big shots, brimming with confidence, so much so that this was an actual promo that ran for a game on ABC last year...
Holy. Shit. RIght?
A star is born ... turning skeptics into believers .... part man, part miracle (my personal favorite, but the way).... superhero .... legend of Lin...
Seriously, how silly does that all look now?
There was a reason I recorded that spot at the time -- because I thought it was a classic case of ABC/ESPN overreact, buying into the "flavor of the month" as some sort of basketball savior. I mean...part man, part miracle. Yes kids, there was a time when Jeremy Lin was considered to be at least partially miraculous.
