Not quite, but closer.
When George Harrison sang "It's been a long cold lonely winter" in the song "Here Comes the Sun," I doubt he was imagining weather in the southern United States, but, surprisingly, it has been pretty accurate this year. Fortunately for us in Houston, it appears the trend of cold, gray days is finally coming to a close as warm(er) weather begins to set in.

The last three weeks in particular have been rough if you are used to the warm, humid Gulf breezes. I've lived here my whole life and I can't recall a winter that felt this cold, even if this is not close to the coldest winter on record. But this weekend represents the first real warming trend of 2014 and it couldn't come soon enough.

Highs on Valentine's Day will be in the low to mid 70s, and highs should remain in the 70s throughout the weekend with sunny skies through early Sunday, when some clouds begin moving in. Low temperatures will be mostly in the 40s and the days will be pleasant.

Clouds do begin to push back in by Sunday and we should see them linger well into next week, right along with the milder temperatures.

Believe it or not, you and your sweetheart may just be able to take advantage of a nice patio this Valentine's Day. There aren't many places in the rest of the country that can say that.
