Aggies, Arabs and Jews -- A Recipe for Success!
For years, religious and political scholars have argued that a primary factor in the brutal Israel-Palestine strife has been the absence of a satellite Texas A&M campus. But now, A&M Chancellor John Sharp is stepping up to do something about it.
Does this mean Reveille will have to keep kosher?
The head of A&M told the Associated Press he wants to build a "peace university" in Nazareth, Israel's largest Arab city; a location chosen after Sharp met with Israeli President Shimon Peres.
"He wanted another aspect added to it, that it would be a peace university, that it would be a university that would be composed of students from diverse backgrounds in Israel -- Arabs and Jews in the same classroom, professors, teachers the same way," Sharp told the AP. "It would be used to foster understanding and education and unity in Israel."
He also told reporters, "We intend to produce here a university of the first class, just as we have in College Station. We feel we can produce something special, not just for Texas A&M but for the state of Israel as well."
The institution would be called Texas A&M University at Nazareth-Peace Campus. God bless 'em. We're just glad some commonsense Texans have told those people to knock it off and just get along already. Why didn't anyone do this before?
