Perry Goes Old School Mexican Bandito On Health Secretary About Affordable Care Act

As has been made clear, Gov. Rick Perry isn't a fan of the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare), and it seems the guy with the perfect mop of hair is even less of a fan of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius after her swing through the state Thursday.

Sebelius was in Austin to try and hammer out a way to tailor the Affordable Care Act to Texas by talking with state officials, she told Politico. But the state officials were having none of it, she said.

"We are eager to have discussions with Texas about a program that could look uniquely Texan," Sebelius told Politico. "But as far as I know, those conversations, at least with the state officials, are not taking place right now."

Perry reinforced that impression of a lack of interest in either the Affordable Care Act or Sebelius, declaring that Texans understand the federal healthcare act plenty well and still don't want any part of it, in a reply that sounds like a slightly more polite version of the "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" badges scene:

"It's not that Americans don't understand Obamacare; it's that we understand it all too well," Perry told the Texas Tribune. "We're all too aware Obamacare will still cause our state immense budgetary challenges in the years ahead just like it will to families and small businesses across our country."

Then he tossed back his perfect head of hair and laughed, brandishing gleaming silver pistols and just daring Sebelius to come ask him about his badges.

(Okay so he probably didn't say that with quite the snarling flare of a Mexican bandito putting a greedy Humphrey Bogart in his place, but it's more fun to think that he did while wearing a sombrero and scaring the hell out of Bogie. Trust us.)

His excuse is that the Feds won't commit to the 90% payments for the medicaid expansion for more than 4 years. Well, dummy, it would make more sense to take the "free money" for 4 years and get people enrolled in preventative care than to continue over the same 4 years to treat the uninsured at ERs or for them to eventually qualify for medicaid via a disability. He has got to be one of the dumbest politicians ever in history. Even Jindal is taking the money!

Remember, these politicians who are SO against government funded healthcare are the same ones who have gold plated government funded healthcare, funded by you and me.  Also, doesn't Texas have like one of THE highest rate of uninsured people in the country.  Tell me, who pays for that?  When an uninsured person has no insurance, no doctor but needs medical attention, they go to the ER, right?  Who pays for that.  The taxpayer does.  The ACA makes healthcare affordable for EVERYONE, not just those who can afford it.

It's already working, it's already saving lives, and it's already saving billions of dollars.  If it were passed by a Repub POTUS, I doubt any of these governors would even think twice about implementing the ACA.  Since, however, it was Obama's doing, they are fighting it tooth and nail.

I never voted for former male cheerleaders for governor and then encouraged them to run for president

@noodlebrain3 I have no insurance.  I used to feel bad if I had to go to the ER for something.  No more.  If Perry is stupid enough, and apparently he certainly is, to let the taxpayers continue footing the bill for the uninsured, so be it.  I know where MY vote will be cast.

@DavyCrockett I was thinking the same thing.  He is the LAST person I would want speaking on my behalf.
