State Rep Debbie Riddle to Breastfeeding Hordes: Hey, "I Breastfed" Too!!!

ACKKKK!! Our eyes!!!!
As we noted yesterday, State Rep Debbie Riddle (R-Tomball) smacked open a hornet's nest of angry breastfeeding moms when she posted on Facebook her reasons for opposing a bill increasing breastfeeders rights.

Riddle said the bill would make it easier to sue business owners who interrupted women breastfeeding in their establishments, and as a good Republican she just could not endorse anything that allows aggrieved parties to seek redress via an unbiased judicial system anchored by a jury of their peers.

Moms didn't see it that way, and soon Riddle's Facebook page was filled with comments.

Typical comment: "I am ashamed you are from Texas and you are one of the people who push the stereo type that people from Texas are uneducated, uninformed, country bumpkins. It is a woman's right to choose if she wants to cover her baby, not yours. You are afraid of boobs! News flash, you have some!"

Riddle issued a new statement today, designed (in vain, no doubt) to quiet the hordes:

I am a mother of three and a grandmother of ten. I breastfed. I support breastfeeding. I wholeheartedly support the current breastfeeding law in Texas, which allows a mother to breastfeed her baby anywhere she is allowed to be. However, I do not support passing legislation which increases the number of lawsuits in our courts. Because House Bill 1706 paves the way for more litigation, I do not support it.

We hope the grandmother bit didn't mean she breastfed as one.....

Anyway, this comment, released through her office, can't be responded to by opponents as easily as another posting on her FB page.
