Holi Bollywood, Batman -- It's Texas's Biggest Festival of Colors!
It's only Monday, but Hair Balls is already stoked for the Holi Festival of Colors celebration March 24 in Rosenberg. If, like us, you weren't intimately familiar with this awesome Indian tradition, here's a highlight: It involves thousands of people eating, dancing and -- the best part -- throwing colored powder on each other.

It's a free, family-friendly celebration with its roots in an ancient story of an evil king being overthrown with the help of Vishnu -- but all you really need to know is that it's a real hoot. Between 13,500 and 15,000 people showed up for last year's festival, according to host Sunil Thakkar, the media mogul we profiled in 2003 on the eve of his movie Where's the Party Yaar?
The celebration includes free food, carnival rides, dance contests, a "Bollywood extravaganza," a chariot procession, a rain dance party, a tug of war competition, topped off by a ceremonial bonfire. (By the way, this year's festival is a "Green Holi," meaning biodegradable powders.)
You'll be hard-pressed to find a more fun event Sunday, so we hope to see you there at Seabourne Creek Park...mostly so we can throw a whole bunch of color on as many people as possible.
