Categories: Crime

Just after midnight on Monday morning, Officer W. Fikes and Officer J. Dodson made an attempt to stop a vehicle driving erratically on the north side of Houston. The suspect, Jared Albert Alvarez, 32, refused to stop and drove down Saddle Rock into a cul-de-sac. In an attempt to evade officers, he backed his car up down the street but got stuck on a large rock.

Officer Fikes got out of the patrol car when the suspect pulled a gun and shot him twice, once in each arm. Officer Dodson shot Alvarez, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Officer Fikes was taken to the hospital in good condition.

Both officers have been on the force since 2010. The case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, and the Harris County District Attorney's Office, as all cases of officer-involved incidents in Houston are.
