Reward Upped for John Enard, Violent Sex Offender Who Has Vowed to Rape Again -- and Who Walked Out of a Houston Halfway House With a History of Escapes
State authorities have increased an award for information leading to the capture of a "sexually violent predator" who walked out of a Houston halfway house that has a habit of just letting these dudes walk off.
Courtesy Texas Department of Public Safety Maybe some violent rapists, like incompetently run halfway houses, just can't be trusted...
John Michael Enard, 58, removed his ankle monitor and strolled out of the Southeast Texas Transitional Center, owned by Florida-based GEO Group, January 19. The Texas Department of Public Safety warned that Enard "has made the comment that he will re-offend before he goes back to prison." He was paroled from a 75-year-sentence for aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault in 1986.
Southeast Texas Transitional Center was formerly the Ben A. Reid Community Correctional Facility; apparently GEO thought that, in the wake of multiple offender walk-offs, it'd be easier to change the name than tighten up security and whatnot. After all, we're only dealing with public safety here. (We think a better name would've been "The Sieve.")
