Possible Tornado Touches Down Outside Willis; Rain Hits Houston
A potential tornado appears to have touched down outside Willis earlier this afternoon. Following a tornado warning issued around 1:30 p.m., Texas Storm Chasers Tweeted a photo that shows a nearby storm cycle, with an "interesting feature" touching the ground.
Reported around 2 p.m. near Willis.
Willis Police Department said they had received not received any reports of either damage or sightings, and that the tornado warning was no longer in effect. Spokespeople from both the Liberty County Sheriff's Office and the Conroe police department, who noted that the tornado warning began at 2:05 p.m. and ended at 2:30 p.m., also reported neither damage nor sightings.
While no damage has yet been noted, ABC 13 meteorologist Travis Herzog Tweeted a Doppler image of the storm cycle surrounding Conroe, noting that the "[r]otation in storm on east side of Conroe could indicate [a] tornado."
A cold front is arriving, and while it won't bring much cold it seems to be bringing more rain than originally expected.
It might pass by and clear out before the evening rush hour, and you should hope so -- it came down pretty hard when the system passed through Meyerland and Westbury. (Luckily, the downpour didn't last too long.)
