Right around Christmas, all anyone seemed to be able to talk about was how warm it was. "It doesn't feel like the holidays when it is warm outside" was the familiar refrain online and off. Oh, to have the glorious cold winter weather to make us feel like celebrating. Well, here you go.

This week in Houston, it will struggle to get out of the 50s, perhaps making it into the low 60s by the weekend, and it will be gray and drizzly until the end of the week. For Houston, this is the dead of winter. No snow shoveling or bundling under two dozen layers of clothing, and it only lasts about two weeks, but it's something.

Expect cold and damp conditions through Wednesday. A cold front passed through on Saturday evening, but low pressure persists, keeping it overcast with a chance of rain through midweek. By Friday, it will begin to warm up slightly as the sun peeks through the clouds, giving way to what promises to be a beautiful weekend with highs in the low 60s and sunny skies -- Chamber of Commerce days, to be sure.

If you do prefer this kind of chilly winter weather, don't worry about a warm-up just yet. Another potentially colder front moves through early next week. It doesn't appear that we will get sub-freezing temperatures, but it is going to be damn chilly all the way through the end of next week as well.

So, feel free to put on a sweater or other winter paraphernalia while you can. They will be back buried in the closet soon enough.
