Alleged Armed Gunman Shot Dead During Botched Armored Car Robbery Outside Movie Theater

I honestly wonder if people planning on committing robberies ever watch TV or the movies. Time and time again, films and television shows depict masked bandits attempting to rob banks, armored cars, stores, fast-food restaurants, people on the street...you name it, they try and steal from it. Yet they ALWAYS get busted...or dead, unless the caper is so cunning, so diabolically clever and so beautifully orchestrated that no one, not even Andy Garcia or Al Pacino, can stop them. Of course, that requires George Clooney, Brad Pitt and a plan so elaborate, only an fool or a genius would attempt it!

Enter this most recent not genius and his try at sidling up to an armored car in the parking lot of the AMC Theatre on Dunvale. As you may have guessed, it didn't end with him planning the heist of some works of art in Italy.

According to a police report, at 3:05 p.m. on Saturday (January 5), an unidentified male suspect approached an armored car transport after the male courier opened the back door so the female courier who was with him could put money she picked up from the theater inside the truck. The suspect shot the female in the hip and the male courier returned fire, hitting the suspect once in the chest. He was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital. The female courier is in stable condition at an area hospital.

The case is being referred to a Harris County grand jury.

Let this be a lesson to you kids. If you drink your milk, study hard in school and watch lots of movies and TV, you probably won't be stupid enough to make a solo robbery attempt on armed guards in broad daylight. And people said TV was a waste of time.

What a waste of money referring the case to a Harris County Grand Jury!

"Alleged"? Uh, no.

Good riddance to this career criminal who served time in the pen after committing the same crime in '96.

@No_PC_BS have to use alleged because to infer guilt without conviction would bring out lawyers and lawsuits.  Even when stating the obvious.

@Dudley_Dawson  They don't have to, they choose to. The guy shot a guard in his attempt to rob them. Fact.

@No_PC_BS @jeffbalke No. No story is amended later. Another story may be written about it with the new information, but no publication goes backward and changes titles and content.

@jeffbalke So just as soon as the investigation is complete (which it probably is already) you will amend this article to call an armed robber/attempted murderer  what he really is?
