Wet Winter Weather Continues Right Through the New Year

If you looked outside Thursday and wondered to yourself, "What is this liquid falling from the sky?" don't feel too bad. It's been a pretty dry fall and winter thus far, so when we started seeing some misty rain Thursday afternoon, as ugly as it may have been, it was a welcome sight.

By Friday afternoon, the rain should clear up and the weekend should at least begin with beautiful, chilly weather -- highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s. By Sunday, clouds will begin to build back in anticipation of the next front, which should move through on New Year's Eve.

Speaking of New Year's, it should be a bit warmer getting up into the 60s on Monday, but temps should start to drop after the final strains of "Auld Lang Syne" fade into 2013. By New Year's Day, we'll be in a pattern of cloudy, damp and cool days that should go through Thursday with a clearing out by the end of the week.

If you aren't from around here, this is much more typical of Houston winter weather -- chilly, humid, soggy with Chamber of Commerce days mixed in between.

One note of caution I would sound for anyone out partying on New Year's Eve. There is a pretty decent chance of rain throughout the day adding to the danger of driving. Normally, dodging drunk drivers is tough enough, but add slick highways to the equation and we could have some very nasty driving conditions. Be extra cautious if there is rain on the roadways so you and everyone else can have a new year to enjoy.
