After 70 years, this is what has come of fabled Robertson Stadium. The photo above was taken on Wednesday as crews demolished the University of Houston campus football venue to make way for a brand-new stadium in its place that will look something like this:

The new facility is scheduled to be ready for the first game of the season in 2014.

The new yet-to-be-named stadium will have 40,000 seats and a corrugated metal exterior that sounds similar to the Dynamo's BBVA Compass Stadium. The new field will also be open at one end and mimic traditional college football stadiums. The open-air venue (nope, no retractible roof on this bad boy) cost $105 million, which is relatively cheap for a stadium these days. For more info, UH has a Web site dedicated to the new place at http://www.houstonfootballstadium.com/.

And here I thought public universities were going through a financial crunch.
