HPD Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting
A Lakeview Police Department officer, working a second job at a jewelry store, fired her gun at a suspect after he pepper-sprayed her.

Houston police did not identify the officer who was working at a jewelry store at 19335 Gulf Freeway about 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 22.
The officer was not injured -- well, other than the pain of pepper spray -- in the incident, investigators reported.
According to HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Odom and Officer M. Coleman:
A Lakeview Police officer was off-duty, in full uniform, and working an extra job at a jewelry store at the above address when an unknown male suspect entered the business and asked to look at jewelry. When the store employee approached the suspect, the suspect pepper-sprayed the officer, produced a weapon and demanded merchandise. Fearing for her safety and that of the employees inside the store, the Lakeview PD officer discharged her duty weapon. The suspect fled out the back of the store with the Lakeview PD officer in pursuit. The suspect then got into a silver, four-door vehicle of unknown make or model and fled the scene.
Police said, "The suspect, described only as a black male, 6 feet, 3 inches tall, with a thin build, was possibly struck by the gunfire."

Investigators said that "as is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division and the Harris County District Attorney's Office."
