Always a target.
A Houston cop pulled over a driver for a traffic violation on the northside in the predawn hours Sunday, probably hoping for a routine piece of business.

Instead he stumbled into the free-fire zone of a nearby robbery and ended up wounded, HPD says.

The officer, whose name has not been released, had pulled over a driver in the 6700 block of Airline Drive about 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

He was soon hit "by stray gunfire from nearby," HPD says. "Further investigation determined a robbery had just occurred in the 6300 block of Airline and, at some point, shots were fired."

Because why not?

The victim of the robbery was not hit by any shots, and the suspects remain at large.

The cop who was hit was only grazed, HPD says, "and did not require medical assistance."

Still, we bet he's annoyed.

Anyone with information on the robbery is urged to contact the HPD Robbery Division at 713-308-0700, the Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
