Those Concerns Over Fracking Haven't Gone Away

A lot of people still hold onto fracking as the latest great hope for a clean, efficient, prosperity-producing bit of environmental manna from heaven.

But doubts and concerns across the nation continue to grow, and the picture has become more clouded. Fluctuating markets don't help clear things up, either.

Village Voice Media takes a nationwide look at fracking and its fallout this week in "New Cracks in the Frack," which finds that "pesky little complaints like pollution, flaming water and abandoned homes continue to cast doubt on the argument that drilling into shale will benefit all."

Homeowners talk about such things as flames spouting out of faucets and waiting in vain for big payouts that are always rumored to have happened somewhere else. Among those interviewed is Sharon Wilson of Texas' Wise County and Fort Worth activist Deborah Rogers.
