A homeowner shot to death a man who allegedly was trying to break into his car in a case that will be referred to a Harris County grand jury, Houston police say.

Kyle Miller Jones, 25, died from multiple gunshot wounds received shortly before 6 a.m. today in the 11500 block of Misty Glen Lane, HPD says.

A homeowner there was awakened by "the sound of breaking glass and went outside armed with a pistol," HPD says. "He was then confronted by Jones, who was standing in the resident's driveway, next to his vehicle that had a broken window."

Jones "was armed with a shovel," HPD says, and "[w]hen Jones turned towards him, the resident then discharged his weapon several times."

Jones, of Pearland, "suffered gunshot wounds to his upper body and was transported to Southwest Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced dead," police say.
