Down a man for almost the entire second half, the Houston Dynamo held on to an important 1-1 road draw against Honduran side Deportivo Olimpia. The Dynamo and Olimpia remain tied atop of the CONCACAF Champions League Group 3 standings with 4 points apiece.

It didn't take long for the home team to get on the board. In the seventh minute, Olimpia converted on their third straight corner kick as Douglas Caetano sent a header over Dynamo goalkeeper Tyler Deric. Despite giving up the early lead, the Dynamo maintained composure and matched their opposition's intensity.

The Dynamo found their equalizer in the 57th minute. After central defender Nathan Sturgis's initial corner kick was cleared back to him, he sent a cross back into the box. Adam Moffat was left uncontested to bury a header in for the 1-1 tie.

Four minutes later, Sturgis was given a straight red card for a foul that was a borderline yellow at best. The Dynamo quickly brought in Bobby Bowell to shore up the defense. Mac Kandji and Will Bruin were later brought in to go at the tired Olimpia defense.

Olimpia gave the Dynamo a scare in the waning minutes of the match as they struck the post.

Dynamo control their CCL destiny
The Dynamo looked pretty solid in their two road outings to open up group play. With yesterday's 1-1 draw in Honduras and last week's 3-1 win in El Salvador against CD FAS, the Dynamo are tied for first place with four points.

The Dynamo will face both teams once more in October -- this time in the friendly confines of BBVA Compass Stadium.

Out of the eight groups in this year's tournament, only first place from each will advance into the knockout stage. Should they advance onto the next stage, the Dynamo would likely square off against a fellow MLS squad or a Mexican side.

The Dynamo return to MLS regular season play this Sunday, when they head to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Fire.
