A 39-year-old man, wanted on an aggravated assault charge involving a family member, died this morning after running from the law enforcement personnel who came out to serve him his warrant.

Members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Unit, led by the U.S. Marshals Office, along with Harris County Sheriff's Patrol District 1, were trying to serve the felony warrant on Darrick Shelton when he decided he did not want to participate in the process.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office:

He left his residence on a motorcycle and was traveling east on Spring Stuebner. A Harris County Sheriff's marked patrol unit attempted to stop the motorcycle with emergency lights activated. Shelton accelerated and fled from the deputy. In the process of fleeing, the motorcycle attempted to pass a Dodge pickup truck and struck the driver's side mirror. Shelton was ejected from the motorcycle and struck a concrete culvert in the adjacent ditch.
Cy Creek Emergency Medical Service pronounced Shelton dead.
