Crimestoppers Offers $5K Reward to End Ongoing Cat Slaughters in Greater Heights Area

Help HPD end a sicko's reign of terror.
A series of gruesome cat killings in several Inner Loop neighborhoods has gotten the attention of Crimestoppers.

The killings, which date back to 2009, have occurred in the River Oaks, Montrose, and the Heights, and the area around Jaycees Park in Lazybrook / Timbergrove is a particular hotspot.

In many cases, the cats are shaved, skinned, and mutilated -- sometimes beheaded, and others times halved or quartered. The bodies are often left on display -- in driveways, or in one case, in the middle of a baseball diamond.

In 2010, we found our own cat dead at the hands of a human in our backyard.

Late last month, someone left the rear portion of a cleanly bisected tabby in the driveway of a home near Jaycees Park. That was enough to get the attention of Crimestoppers and the Major Offenders Unit at HPD.

Earlier this week, Crimestoppers issued a statement offering up to $5,000 for the capture of any suspects in these cases. If you have any tips, please call 713-222-TIPS, or text "TIP610" to CRIMES (274637) or submit via the web at http://www.crimestoppers.org. The anonymity of all tipsters is assured.

Crimestoppers also urges pet owners to keep your pets inside or in your own yard, and to help return wandering animals back to their rightful owners.

It's been happening since 2009, that's one LONG ongoing "prank" as you call it.

Not to deminish the reports, but has anyone looked into the area schools? Or even Vets? The reason I ask, is could it be bad pranking. Certain schools use dead cats for Biology classes, dont they? Are all the bodies accounted for? And same goes for the Vets. Are all the bodies being disposed of correctly? The shaved comment made me think of medical/ class room experiments. Or maybe this is my way of hoping for the best and its just pranks and NOT a serial Killer in the works.

What does this "equation" has to do with the topic of killing and torturing cats?!!!!!

Why do you even care about the reward? I'm tempted to go hide somewhere and keep a watch out for anything suspicious looking in the area. This kind of behavior needs to be stopped swiftly and without mercy. It's bad enough that animals are suffering, but soon it will be humans being found.

I can't vouch for Heights or River Oaks, but in Montrose, some of these feral cats haven't had an "owner" around in generations.

YES!  I cannot BELIEVE this has just been brought to the public's attention... it is VERY sick behavior.... those poor kitties.... and just think, humans are probably next. :(

Thank GOD Crime Stoppers is doing something to help... money talks... as sad as it is. :(  However, they could have done something sooner than this, given the length of time this has been going on.. they have a vested interest due to the fact that it is likely a serial killer (or soon to be one) involved.

I they either find the bastard or bastards doing this or they get shot by someone...and if they do get shot & die who the hell really cares..

Messed up. I hope the Egyptian gods get word and bring a wrathful vengeance upon their heads.

Don't get me wrong, this person is sick. but maybe cat owners need to keep their pets inside where they belong.

What?
What?

Stop letting your cats roam and you have nothing to fear, fools.

Animals cannot be returned if you don't put collars on your pets, SLACKER OWNERS.

The "up to $5000" reward is on just about every Crime Stoppers case, including most murders. They're not "lowballing" the amount here just because the crime involves animals. The thought that it would require a higher dollar amount for someone holding information to do the right thing and come forward is pretty disappointing.

yeah I think the one in my drive way may have been killed by a dog, or rather a group of dogs. Pitbulls run in pack inside my neighborhood, keeps the yuppies in check lol

Leo Medrano, didn't you have this happen in your driveway too? There are horrible people in this world.

These are people's pets! I know several that have lost theirs, not a prank to eviscerate your cat then throw it back onto your front lawn.....it's happening with greater regularity RIGHT NOW.....
