At 6 a.m. Sunday morning.
One passenger was killed and another critically injured in a one-car accident caused by a 20-year-old driver who police say was drunk early Sunday morning.

Carla Lopez has been charged with intoxication assault and intoxication manslaughter, and is in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, HPD says.

Police say she was driving a black Dodge Charger in the 3300 block of South Rice Boulevard about 6 a.m. Sunday. She told police she "changed lanes to avoid a slow moving vehicle" and lost control of the vehicle, slamming into a utility pole.

Both passengers were in the back seat without seat belts.

"Lopez was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries and charged after investigators determined alcohol was involved in the accident," HPD says.
