Delmus Scott Jr.: Army Postmaster Steals $565,000 Worth of Postal Orders
A man who was the equivalent of a postmaster at an Army base stole 565 $1,000 money orders and managed to convert about $90,000 each to himself and his fiancée before getting caught, federal prosecutors say.

Delmus Eugene Scott Jr., 34, of Humble, Texas, was sentenced to almost three years in a federal prison yesterday, the U.S. Attorney's Office says.
He had been working for a subcontractor as a custodian of public effects at Camp Buehring in Kuwait. In that job he "had full autonomy to order blank money orders directly from the U.S. Postal Service distribution center," prosecutors said, and he used it early and often.
He ordered blank $1,000 money orders and then imprinted them using the camp's machine.
He managed to convert 181 of them to cash before he was caught -- $91,000 for himself and $90,000 for his fiancée.
"Agents recovered the remaining $384,000 in postal money orders before they could be negotiated," prosecutors said.
