A state judge has approved a $1.9 million settlement for the son of the man killed on a Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo ride in 2011.

Brian Greenhouse, 46, was thrown 28 feet to his death on the Hi-Miler roller coaster at the 2011 rodeo.

His family sued the rodeo and Ray Cammack Shows, which operates the Midway rides. The settlement provides Greenhouse's son, currently in second grade, college tuition, stipends and further payments. The settlement will be held in annuities that will pay him throughout his life, so he may make more than the initial $1.9 million -- one-third of which will go to his attorneys.

HLS&R issued a statement:

In addition to sadness, the Show has the deepest concern for the economic welfare and emotional wellbeing of Mr. Greenhouse's young son.

The offer to settle the case, including the agreed upon amount of settlement, was a result of a business decision made by the liability insurance carrier for RCS (the Show's carnival operator), who also provided insurance coverage under its RCS policy for the benefit of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

No settlement money was provided by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo or by its liability insurance carrier.

HLS&R also said it "continues to believe that neither the Show nor RCS was at fault in the death of Mr. Greenhouse. The Show's independent ride inspectors, Coulter and Associates, and representatives of the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission found no failures or malfunctions of the carnival equipment involved in this incident."

You see the fellows running those rides? They are the same guys that put them together.
