Shelley Linder & Holly Lopez: Two More Teachers Accused of Sexing Up Students

hollyshelley.jpg
Shelley Linder (L) and Holly Lopez: Both accused.
And your two Texas teachers of the day accused of having sex with students are: Shelley Linder from Brazosport High and Holly Lopez from central Texas.

Both have been arrested and face charges, of different types. Lopez, 32, is accused of having sex with boys aged 14 and 13, but it is not clear if they were her students at the time, so the charge is aggravated sexual assault of a minor. Linder, 25, faces two counts of an improper relationship between an educator and a student and two counts of enticing a child. Her victims were aged 16 and 17.

Lopez is a special-ed teacher in Lexington, which is about 50 miles east of Austin. She is charged in Travis County because the sexual encounters allegedly occurred at the Pflugerville home of one of the boys.

She provided condoms, reportedly. The arrest affidavit says authorities learned of the attacks after one of the victims "began feeling weird about the situation."

Linder was a science teacher at Brazosport High when the attacks took place. She has since been fired. Court documents show she had sexual relations with the 16-year-old in 2009 and then moved on to the 17-year-old a year later. The encounters took place in her house.

I had the hots for one of my teachers in HS.  Nothing ever happened which is wonderful but there was another teacher who did start something with a girl and he took an "early retirement."

I've been a teacher again for twelve years since my retirement, and I've said to myself that a person would have to be crazy to go into teaching with the current batch we have in the legislature, who are more interested in destroying public education so they can "privatize it" (read private religious schools living on public money) than in improving and supporting education. I guess these women (and the men who are guilty of the same offense) at least support my argument.    Seriously, this sort of thing has gone on in the schools since I was there. I remember a certain drama teacher who had a "thing" for several of her students, and when I first started teaching in a hick burg in East Texas back in the late '60s, the superintendent of schools had a teenage daughter he encouraged to have an "affair" with an male English teacher so, I heard, she could "catch" a good husband.    Nonetheless, it's a pretty rare thing, and if the administration is on the job, it gets broken up pretty quickly.

Why do some of you say Yay for female molesters but not male ones? They should all be punished equally in my opinion.

Any one watch Criminal Minds?  They had a pretty twisted story line last week about a teacher having a relationship with a student and having his baby. She got out of mental hospital and starting killing people to get their love child back and run off with him.

Well I'm a student who goes to Lexington Middle School and honestly she's just a creep. I honestly think she was trying to relive her years in highschool. She always had a thing for my friend and she became friends with my Bestfriend and told her almost everything. And well she told everything on Mrs. Lopez. That's it and no they weren't special Ed kids. They were normal everyday students who went to her class just to get a piece of candy, and then she got all wierd.

Good thing these teachers weren't priests.... then there'd be outrage.

From the epidemic of such cases, it's clear that young boys are not safe among female teachers, and so female teachers should not be allowed to teach (or be in their presence) unsupervised. Obviously, these "liberated," "educated," "public servants" think with their ladyparts when they are around teenage boys (Ah, the smell of testosterone in the morning!) and lack the self-control to avoid sleeping with them, often many of them before they get caught.

We must immediately implement a program to move us back toward same-sex education as quickly as is feasible. That means offering bounties to men who will take up teaching, admission quotas favoring men in university "education" programs; and hiring quotas in the school system.

After all, that's EXACTLY what women demanded when they fabricated the myth of girls having a "self-esteem" crisis due to male teaching styles. It's all the more important when the problem is real, and not a feminist myth.

These children were mentally disabled 13 and 14 years old.  One went to the police and described feeling "wierd" about it.  That's the way young children describe to police that they've been molested.  That's all this was.  A case of child molestation.

See, we wouldn't have these problems if teachers could get married. They do this stuff because of the repressive religious nature of the public school system. The leadership let's them get away with it. I blame the Secretary of Education, who is ultimately responsible for all this. We need to abolish the public school system.

Oh... wait... you can only say those kinds of things about Catholics... never mind.

The only teacher that ever hit on me was a menopausal grey haired bitty in 7th grade. Even the worst was great.

What happens when human beings reach ages normally associated with adulthood without ever really growing up?  What happens when a person in their 20's or even their 30's can relate with someone in their teens not as an adult to an adolescent, but as two peers?

This is what happens.

The problem here is not that there are suddenly all these abusive teachers running around, but that we as a culture have progressively extended the period childhood itself to the point that anyone under 30 is almost seen as a youngster.

I work at a university where people well past 20 years of age will still refer to themself and their peers as "just kids."  They may seem like kids to people much older, but to hear them refer to themselves as such is jarring to me.  I never called myself a kid, even when I was one.

Once upon a time people grew up.  The responsibilities and accountability of adulthood came relatively early in life.  Marriage and work came right after high school, if not sooner.  My grandmother was married at 16, and not because she was pregnant.  To my knowledge she was quite virginal on her wedding night.  Back then 16 was considered a perfectly appropriate age for a girl to get married.

Times have certainly changed.  Nowadays instead of becoming functional adults, many people linger on in a sort of perpetual adolescence.  The milestones that once demarcated the lines between childhood, adolescence and adulthood aren't there, or they don't have the same significance they once did.

As a result, young female teachers who 40 years ago would have seen their students as immature adolescents, now relate to them as younger peers.  This promotes fraternization that makes these sorts of relationships more likely.  It is no surprise that the teachers who are involved in this are the more attractive ones.  These are precisely the sorts of teachers that teenage guys are going to be interested in.

Take an attractive teacher who is lonely and vulnerable, add in some flirtation and flattery from a male who is younger, but whom she relates to almost as an equal, and you've got a formula for shenanigans.

It isn't that these teachers are abusers who pursue adolescents sexually, but that they don't recognize these adolescents as being different from themselves.  In many ways this is closer to an office romance between the boss and junior staffer than it is to anything else.

Because this is a social problem, there are no simple solutions.  If and when our society begins defining adulthood in a meaningful way once more, and encouraging young people to take up the mantle of meaningful adulthood instead of persisting as overgrown adolescents, then we will see cases like these fade away.  Until then it is just going to keep on happening.

We are.

And a handful of ignoramuses seeing female child molesters and thinking "damn feminists, wanting women to have equality!" isn't going to change that.

These are two very sick, very deranged individuals. But what can be expected in this Sodom-and-Gomorrah from sea-to-shining sea, situations like this not occurring when nearly the entire populace is suffering from dangerous to severe self-esteem issues?

These two ought to be euthanised. Violently.

As should ANY OTHER RAPIST, MALE OR FEMALE.

David Houston

They are both attractive women, who would normally have little problem attracting men of their own ages for sex, but then most of the abusers are, so just what is it that compels them to go after little boys?  It's got to be more than just the sex, because I can't imagine that is a sexually fulfilling experience in any way.  Is it a 'control' thing?

13 high

Boys at that age rebound much sooner and more often than adults do and if nature endowed them with all the right stuff, teacher will do everything to make their learning experience a special one. Too bad I didn't have a teacher like that...

Retarded much???  Well the 13 and 14 year old were.So you approve of rape of mentally disabled kids, as long as it's female on male. You're a pig

Pehraps they weren't as popular or attractive back then in thier own day. Perhaps this is them re-living what they missed out on. Perhaps they're just fucked in the head. I personally wouldn't think of these two as a 'control thing' at thier age, with thier looks and having a vagina they can control just about any man they want. Why go for ones so young in that case?

I find that not at all funny and highly disturbing. These women are mentally deprived and amoral, like almost with no exception, everyone in this country now is.

Please take your meds.

I have to admit too, that while it is wrong since they are their teachers. . .That kids these days are growing up faster and faster. Personally I think the age of consent should be changed to reflect that.

I mean just watch television. Sex is everywhere.

Then again I would never be so desperate to do a teeny bopper.

They were around. Know of a few teachers in my old high school that got away clean with this type of behavior. One though ultimately lost her marriage behind it.

David Houston

Yes, they've always been around.  When I was about 15, a boy in my class was moving away.  A very very strange and awkward situation arose, when a couple of girl students saw the French teacher kissing him goodbye in a classroom during lunch.  The kiss was apparently quite passionate.  Not sure what came of it all, but girls talk, and soon everyone knew about this.  That teacher was out of there shortly afterwards and never mentioned again.  She was a very pretty woman who liked to dress much too provocatively for a High School French class.  I was in her French class and drooled like the rest of them.  Even back then, there wasn't much that wasn't assumed about what had obviously been going on.

I hear so many stories like yours. I even remember at least a couple of rumors from my own high school. From media accounts, you get the impression that only Catholic bishops and the Boy Scouts have been guilty of sweeping these kinds of things under the rug, but I believe the impulse to cover-up is an all-too-common, all-too-human reaction to these types of situations.

Truth will out, eventually, and there will be a lot of school administrators with a lot of 'splainin' to do. If I were a principal or school board official, I would get proactive about training staff, teachers and students to report suspicions to the police right away.
