Kanin Asay, bull riding
True cowboys are hard to find, but not at the Houston Rodeo. Life on the road leads them here this time every year for the biggest rodeo in the world, where they'll ride and wrangle livestock for cash and glory. Each day, Hair Balls will spotlight one person with enough dirt on his boots to call himself a cowboy -- and mean it.

Name: Kanin Asay
Age: 25
Hometown: Powell, Wyoming
Event: Bull Riding

I started riding bulls professionally in 2004.

My first trip to Houston was 2007 and I've been here every year since. Last year was probably my best year. I ended up finishing third and won about $17,000. I look forward to this year and want to make it my best.

My favorite part about rodeoing is the opportunity to meet people. I'm part of the Extreme Life Ministries. The Lord has called us all to preach and we each have our own podium to preach from, so mine has been bull riding.

When I'm not rodeoing, I'm being a dad. [He holds Kasen Shane, his five-month-old, first-born son.] My wife and I had our first ultrasound here in Houston last year during the rodeo.

In my free time, my wife and I raise bucking bulls. We spend a lot of time on the ranch and I like to go hunting, fishing and play golf. Just doing relaxing type stuff and spending time with the family.
