MLS Suspends Dynamo Colin Clark for "Faggot" Comment

Major League Soccer has suspended the Dynamo's Colin Clark for three games for calling a ball boy a "fucking faggot" over live TV.

"Major League Soccer will not tolerate this type of behavior from its players or staff at any time, under any circumstances," MLS commissioner Don Garber said in a statement. "Colin Clark has expressed sincere remorse for his actions and I believe that he will learn from this incident."

Clark was also fined an undisclosed amount.

The midfielder issued his own statement:

I am sorry about what happened during the Seattle match. I have personally apologized to the ball boy, and I want to take this chance to say I'm sorry to everyone that I've offended. I intend to never use those words again in any context. There is no excuse for them. What I said does not properly represent who I am or what I believe. I made a mistake that I truly regret. I accept the punishment that has been handed down by MLS, and I want to learn from this incident and move forward.

Clark used the slur in a March 23 game in Seattle. He began apologizing on his Twitter account the next day.

The Dynamo also issued a statement saying, "We know that this incident is not a true representation of Colin's character or beliefs and that he is remorseful for what happened. He has a strong record of being a community leader and expect that he will use this as a learning and teaching opportunity in the future."

I hope he got suspended for saying Fucking not Faggot.

"Faggot" is a hateful word associated with bigotry and he used it at work, on TV no less, what's difficult to grasp about this? No one's saying you can't say faggot if you want, but if you do it at work, I'd hope you'd get punished.

No more Friday Night Lights references for you, you don't deserve them. Maybe you can make some Season 2 references, Season 2 sucked

God forbid the MLS not want their sport being aligned with bigotry. I guess by not allowing bigotry, they are the real bigots. That's usually how the bigot's argument goes.

Some people think the MLS is in the wrong suspending him. I'm saying that they have the right to because it's their organization and might not want to be associated with homophobia.
