Lauren Topek: Principal Yanked After Janitor Death Lands at Bell Elementary
We wrote earlier this year about Antonia Rivas, a 69-year-old janitor at Shadowbriar Elementary who -- according to her family and some teachers -- was overworked by the school's principal in the days leading up to her death.

Three weeks after the article appeared, HISD yanked Shadowbriar principal Lauren Topek from her job. The district gave no reason for the unusual mid-school-year change.
Topek has resurfaced: She "has been assigned to work with the administrative team at Bell" Elementary, HISD spokesman Jason Spencer tells Hair Balls.
"[E]ven though Ms. Topek was removed as principal of Shadowbriar, she still has an employment contract with the district. She was not fired," Spencer says.
Bell is a "physical development" magnet, according to its Web site. It's on the southwest side near Airport Boulevard and the Beltway.
