We have some great commenters here on Hair Balls, and it's time we paid some damn attention to them.

So we'll be highlighting a Comment of the Day each morning, from the previous day's work. Maybe two comments, even.

This will all be determined by a highly rigorous scientific formula involving wit, clarity and whatever else we feel like at the moment.

We noted five odd, ad not very endearing, facts about Al Capp, the man who invented Sadie Hawkins Day, which is today and which is the most sexist holiday ever. (Imagine, women can ask a man out!)

One reader cogently came to Capp's defense.

Max Allan Collins wrote:

LI'L ABNER was a brilliant comic strip, and a liberal one for most of its run. It is not forgotten among comic art fans, many of whom consider it the greatest of all comic strips, and easily the funniest. A misanthrope who lost a leg at an early age, Capp suffered a decline both artistically and mentally during his last decade or two. Great artists like Capp and Lennon find themselves predictably at odds when each defines a different generation.
