We have some great commenters here on Hair Balls, and it's time we paid some damn attention to them.

So we'll be highlighting a Comment of the Day each morning, from the previous day's work. Maybe two comments, even.

This will all be determined by a highly rigorous scientific formula involving wit, clarity and whatever else we feel like at the moment.

We wrote about why many Astro fans won't exactly miss announcer Milo Hamilton, who's (finally) retiring.

Many fans agreed.

UH Coog wrote:

Thank you so much for calling it like it is. I have never liked Milo and wish he would have never been hired here. My only disappointment with his retirement is that it won't happen until the end of the season. Gene Elston got hosed when they fired him for this buffoon.

when i started to work for the houston post co. in 1977 and spent countless hours in the car  i began a love affair with the astros.  having moved to galveston in 1969 from northern michigan us kids were spoiled by summer afternoons when we could listen to Earnie Harwell from front porch transistor radios as we rode our bicycles through town. Elston was the perfect man for me he taught me national league baseball and all about the astros and every other team. my first trip to the dome is still a favorite memory and i still have my sons first rainbow astros shirt he is 34 now. my last game in the dome was mike scott's no hitter and i remember the way that Gene called it compared to Milo's call Gene let the fans at the dome call it for him on the radio-- milo on hse i think blabered over the picture on the tube. Gene's call was great because he never missed saying the right thing at the right time it was the perfect reporting of what happened on the field.  Milo is all showbiz and a entertaining clown for some but i enjoyed the pure baseball insite and knowledge that geno gave me.- my favorite astros big inning - a walk,a stolen base, fielders choice. and a sac fly.  Followed by some of the best pitching and defense ever. thanks

If one likes not knowing the pitch count on each batter, the number of outs in the inning, the number of runners on base and he score I would then surmise they enjoy listening to milo
