• I am sorry for your loss, this was a horrific accident. However, she had no idea she hit a person and her friend did not tell her to leave. • The victim was with friends with this happened and they witnessed this horrible tragedy. They did look both ways before crossing the road the intoxicated girl came around a corner speeding and hit him. He was not fully in the road yet and if she had not been swerving she would not have hit him. There were two parked cars on the side of the road and as soon as he took one step past those cars he was hit by this drunken idiot! Have you ever been down Washington Ave? No one there uses the crosswalks and half of the side streets do not even have a crosswalk. This is why I stated before that she should not have been speeding in an area that is known for having pedestrians. Did you know that when this girl was arrested for this horrific crime she was laughing? Some people have no shame and no  remorse. Do not defend other peoples ignorance.

She needs to spend the rest of her life behind bars!  After I found out the girl had posted bail and was free again I became sick to my stomach. This girl is in fact a monster and she should be monitored by an ankle bracelet, placed on house arrest! If she committed these crimes once she will do it again! No one is safe from drunk drivers, with her behind bars we will have one less drunk driver to worry about.  It is very unfortunate that she killed another person rather than herself. It should have been her own life that was taken because it was her poor judgement. To everyone on here that is posting in her defense, imagine if that was your son, brother, cousin, or friend. You would feel so much anger toward this girl and you would want justice to be served. • Today I said goodbye to a wonderful person due to these girls decision. I am pretty sure it wasn't her first time drinking n driving intoxicated. I do not wish bad things to happen to her because living with this burden is going to be enough for her to understand the stupidity of her decisions. My heart goes out to the dorantes family. I hope justice is served when it comes to this girl. I know that she will live with this for the rest of her life. Nothing can justify any of the pain we are all going through. • Nobody is saying she's evil or whatever. She may be a good person, but she still made the decision to drive drunk. And we can't really say anything about Luis crossing the street because nobody knows what really happened. Even if it is illegal people do it all the time. She was speeding down on Washington. Sometimes you see a car and you see it from far and all the sudden they are right where you are. What really bothers me is that she didn't care to stop. I can honestly say I have only driven intoxicated once and I was about 5 mins from my house. I never drive when I go out because I know that I drink. If your gonna drink, just simply be more responsible. I still think she needs to pay for what she did. Imagine being in Luis's family's shoes, you would want justice. She took a young man's life away and he will never get a second chance.

• Crossing the street without looking is always dangerous. This is why our parents always told us to look both ways before crossing. You can see a mile in either direction if you just look first before stepping into the street.

• First off if she would have stopped after hitting him, she would be out and about with nothing but a DUI I've known Blair for about 5 years now and my dad is a Houston police officer and has been for 30 years so Ive had plenty of expirience with laws and and the justice system. If Blair thought about it and stayed there she would not be in near as much trouble. Yes it is a tragedy that she killed a man but if the man was walking in the street without a cross walk that's illegal and he is responsible for what happend to him. So say all you want about how she's evil or whatever for running but think about when you were in college or highschool and did serving wrong and had a run in with the cops.. • I beg to disagree. Harris County is hell-bent on making money from DUI charges and their accompanying $1000+ driver's license suspension fees. Trust me, DUIs are a huge money-maker for the county and once you're arrested even if you're innocent you will pay whether you are charged or not. I unfortunately know this from personal experience.

• BTW, the photo is proof that she was not sober. It was taken hours after the incident and her eyes tell the tale.

• One thing I have not seen on this message board that needs to be included is just how many people in this city willingly and commonly drive under the influence. Ive been lucky enough to live in many many different places in my life, and I have noticed that Houston has more drunk drivers than all of those other places combined.  This city has no public transit system so going out without a vehicle is extremely difficult. This city also puts little time or money into arresting drunk drivers. Honestly, in another state or country, there would be DWI check points on every major street, Washignton Ave first and foremost. If people know theyll get pulled over or have to go through a check they will drive drunk less. cause and effect; hopefully this tragedy leads to change down here. Finally, I will admit that I have driven drunk before. It's not something I'm proud of, but I do think my experiences with drunk drivers in Houston and the way it is policed all over the world can hopefully lead to change.

• You bet wrong.  Not all of us have gotten behind the wheel after drinking.  Some of us have the self discipline to have a designated driver, call a cab or someone who hasn't been drinking.  Obviously you have done it, but don't assume that means everyone else does it too so that you can justify doing it yourself!

Kids today are educated beginning in elementary school about the dangerous of drunk driving.  She knew the potential tragedy that she might cause and she also knew what the consequences would be if she did.  She did not make a mistake, she made a choice and through her choice and her choice alone she killed another person.  As to your comment that "we all make mistakes",  give me a break.  You are saying that making the choice to drink and drive a "mistake", but it's not.  Most people don't drink and get behind the wheel drunk and risk hurting or killing innocent people.  I have a daughter who is her age (and two older sons) and my heart breaks for everyone involved, including the young lady.  Drinking and driving is a nonnegotiable at our house. If I ever caught my kids drinking and driving they would never drive again until they supported themselves and bought their own car.  I am up when they get home and I interact with them and if I ever suspect they've been drinking I breathalyze them.  If they drink they call me and my husband or I go get them and they don't get in trouble - that's our agreement and I've never caught one of them drinking and driving.   Sometimes their friends even call us and we go get them too.  Some people think we are too strict but we think it is our responsibility to our children and every other innocent person on the road.  My oldest son is grown with kids now and he thanks us all the time for how we handled it when he was younger.  I've never written on one of these things before, but I can't sit here and read your words that minimize her actions, imply this is some regular normal mistake that everyone makes, and are completely insensitive to the family of the innocent victim and not speak out.  You write your heart goes out to the Dorante family, yet every other thing you wrote shows complete disregard for how they feel. • Luis D. was my family member ... And there is no words for what she has done. However, I want her family and friends to accept the fact if this would be the other way around they would have something to say about Luis.

• My heart goes out to the Dorante family, as it is a tragic loss. They are in all my hopes and prayers along with the Bowman family, even though they are still lucky enough to have their daughter. While it is their fault, it is not that they did it on purpose. These girls were clearly intoxicated and not in their right state of mind in which they were not thinking..not thinking lead to this tragedy. They did not purposely ruin their lives and kill this man, it was an accident and they tried to avoid the consequence of a DUI while also running into someone, while now they are serving much more.

She isn't an evil or a malicious person, but she still made the ill-advised decision to NOT stop after she hit the man, whether it was he who was at fault for stepping into the street, or the drivers (Blairs') fault. The reasons for her not stopping are numerous. Alcohol had a play in her thinking for one, and I have a feeling that the passenger that was with her, a girl named Danielle, told her not to stop. Well at least I get that feeling since I've known Danielle for a while too. Not a very nice person.

• I knew Luis since we wer about 14-15(went to highschool with him) and it breaks my heart to know he wont be here to crack jokes and keep us smiling. He was a great person to be around and could always turn your frown upside down. Amazing person inside and out.
