How did people ever survive without Twitter?

Luckily, it is now a strictly theoretical question, as we are comfortably ensconced in a world where we are kept updated on what very casual acquaintances are having for lunch, or whether that one person who occasionally provides a newsy update is currently being annoyed by the person ahead of him at the supermarket cashier.

On that momentous Christmas Eve in Bedford Falls, when George Bailey learned that It's a Wonderful Life, they had no Twitter.

But if they did.....

actually it depends upon how you use it. as a 'microblog' or 'mini-newsfeed', it's great, and also a half way decent way to promote ones self. the trick is to select who you are following by reading their wall first. if it is all personal 'status updates' then i say 'no' (blah - THAT is lame!) . follow tweeps who post links and their own media. also weed out any of your followers, ie spam--.  i personally don't get much interaction there, in contrast to facebook, for instance, but it's a great 'information firehose', as my hacker friend calls it...
