Rainy, Cold Post-Thanksgiving Weekend...in Houston!

​There's a saying that if you don't like the weather in Texas, just wait. Well, this weekend qualifies, particularly for those of you all hopped up on turkey, Christmas songs and holiday joy as you flit about the area malls and Best Buys scraping and clawing your way to gift-buying bliss.

Most people, when it comes to Christmas spirit, prefer colder weather -- cold and gloomy if possible. You'll get a little bit of each this weekend as a cold front blows through.

The Good News
We're going to get rain. The National Weather Service is calling for 70 to 80 percent throughout the area. That should mean a good soaking of between half and an inch-and-a-half of rain starting tomorrow morning. That should be music to our drought-plagued ears.

The Better News (Assuming You Like Cold Weather)
It's going to get substantially colder, and we mean it. Temperatures will begin dropping tomorrow, topping out around 70 in the afternoon and dropping into the low 40s tomorrow night. For those of you who have been complaining it isn't cold enough for November, here you go because by Sunday night, lows will reach the mid-30's for central Houston and there could even be a light freeze to the north and west of the city.

The Best News
Once the rain clears out tomorrow night, we should be in for some Chamber of Commerce weather. Highs all week should barely reach 70 and another batch of re-enforcing cold air should show itself around Thursday, dropping us back to around 63 for a high. Basically, it's going to be cool, sunny and amazing, the kind of weather northerners would kill for this time of year.
