We have some great commenters here on Hair Balls, and it's time we paid some damn attention to them.

So we'll be highlighting a Comment of the Day each morning, from the previous day's work. Maybe two comments, even.

This will all be determined by a highly rigorous scientific formula involving wit, clarity and whatever else we feel like at the moment.

We wrote about the Astros' front-office housecleaning, which saw the departures of GM Ed Wade and president Tal Smith.

Most Astro fans had been clamoring for the moves by new owner Jim Crane, but one reader cautioned about expecting too much in the way of changes.

A lot of the future success of this team depends on finances. If the new GM is going to be handcuffed by a $60 payroll limit, then the Astros could hire the best GM in the world and not be successful. It's great if Crane goes out and hires a proven GM, but if he does that then follows it up with a strict low-ball payroll, then nothing will be gained.

Friedman is winning in Tampa Bay with a 47 million dollar payroll in the same division with the Yankees and Red Sox.  Your argument is invalid

Roger that.  And Hunsicker had the same cuffs here, too.
